Icomes Lab’s pen-type electronic pipette “pipetty” reduces the margin of error from the operator’s hand heat from 2.5% to 0.3%.“We see it as our duty to take advantage of our expertise to prepare for the future,” says Murakawa Tsutomu, COO and President of Koken, which has three arrows to its bow: clean air solutions, health solutions and safety solutions. In the current COVID-19 crisis, the company’s skill set is vital to the safety of health workers and the general public.
“We believe that innovation comes from challenging the norm,” Murakawa says about his company’s approach to development. “We are always searching for new ways of solving common problems.” With its cloud-based platform, obniz eliminates the need to develop firmware for individual pieces of hardware, making the process of connecting to “things” considerably cheaper – up to 50% cheaper, according to Cambrian Robotics.
Icomes Lab CEO Katano Keiji graduated from a university in Tokyo and started work at a factory in Morioka in the Tohoku region of northern Japan. When the factory closed in 2002, he stayed local, utilizing his expertise and connections at Iwate University to launch Icomes Lab. Local Tohoku manufacturing know-how was central to the startup’s success, but Katano is looking beyond Tohoku and Japan to grow and expose Icomes Lab’s products and technologies to a larger audience.
