In anticipation of the final trailer on Monday, Jared Leto breaks down the comic book legacy of Morbius in a new video.
Jared Leto explains Morbius' comic book legacy from a forbidden character to a fan-favorite in a new video for the upcoming movie. Leto stars in the next installment of Sony's Spider-Man Universe as Dr. Michael Morbius, a scientist suffering from a rare blood disease who experiments with a form of vampirism to cure him, granting him superhuman abilities without the traditional weaknesses of vampires.
Alongside Leto, the cast for Morbius includes Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, Tyrese Gibson and Michael Keaton reprising his role of Adrian Toomes/Vulture from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Development on the film was confirmed following the success of Sony's Venom that kicked off its shared universe of movies inspired by Spider-Man characters that would later become known as the SSU. After nearly two years of delays, Morbius is gearing up to hit theaters this April.
Long before the Jared Leto-led movie got off the ground, multiple efforts were made to bring Morbius to the big screen going back to Wesley Snipes' Blade, in which the character appeared in a deleted scene to establish his future in the franchise. Marvel Entertainment would later deny the rights for the character to Guillermo del Toro for Blade II as they began working with Artisan Entertainment for a potential adaptation in the early '00s, a plan that would also fall apart.
