Jay Slater, 19, from Lancashire, was last heard from on Monday morning as he told a friend he was lost
The distraught mother of a British teenager who vanished while on holiday in Tenerife has described the ordeal of searching for her son as "horrendous".
Debbie Duncan, Mr Slater's mother, took an urgent flight to Tenerife in the Canary Islands, Spain, on Tuesday morning to join the search. Ms Duncan expressed her concern that her son, an apprentice bricklayer, might have been "been taken against his will".She said: "It's just traumatic and it doesn't feel real. It's just awful, it's horrendous. I think he's been taken against his will with what's been said, but it's in the hands of the police.
Lucy, a friend of Mr Slater who accompanied him to the island for the NRG music festival, told that after a night out, he had chosen to stay with acquaintances he met during the holiday. She recounted receiving a call from Mr Slater around 8.15am on Monday, in which he explained he had missed the bus and was attempting to walk back despite being lost, needing water, and having only 1% battery left on his phone.
Lucy told the MEN that one of the people Mr Slater had met had driven them back to his apartment in a hire car and the missing man had not realised how far away it was.
