The teacher asked students “What are your chances in life of doing something with yourself other than sitting home waiting for your welfare check or your section 8 check to come in?”
A teacher at Jersey City’s Academy 1 Middle School was removed from the classroom Monday after going on a 45-minute tirade last week filled with foul language and racial stereotypes directed at Black students.
“Your neighborhood is filled with violence. Who is perpetrating the violence? Black on Black,” the teacher told the students. “The whites aren’t coming here shooting you all down. Are they? Are they? How many white people came and shot you today?” The incident isn’t the first time a Jersey City teacher has been accused of a racist tirade filled with foul language. Last year, a Dickinson High School teacher drew national attention after being recorded turning a Zoom class on climate change into a vulgar verbal attack on his Black students.
