The raw, chilly weather will stick around longer than expected for New Jersey as rain continues into Wednesday.
Forecasters had thought the last of the rain would end Tuesday, but the departure of low pressure system parked off the coast of Delaware and Maryland has slowed, meaning a good portion of Wednesday will also be wet, theCoastal flood warnings remain in effect until 9 p.m. Tuesday for Atlantic, Cape May, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean and southeastern Burlington counties. ManyForecasters are also concerned about flooding in urban areas with poor drainage.
Up to an additional inch of rain is expected in the Newark area by Tuesday evening, according to the National Weather Service.Gusty winds out of then north and northeast will reach 20 to 30 mph inland and 30 to 40 mph along the Jersey Shore. The weather service’s New York office, which covers Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Passaic and Union counties says there will be rain on and off all day.
