Le'Veon Bell took to social media to explain and defend his decision to skip some of the Jets voluntary workouts.

"When it's time to play football..." Bell wrote on Instagram. "I got to stick to the formula that I know works for me to be the best player I can be...I'm not just tryna win football games, I want a ring. I want to desperately show everybody what I can REALLY do...I'll take the heat right now, everybody will forget about that once January comes around."
But when he wasn't on hand for voluntary minicamp, April 23-25, it gained some attention, and annoyed some Jets fans, because just a month earlier he had signed a contract that paid him $27 million guaranteed at signing. After Bell's post, there's clearly no guarantee he'll show up before June 4, when mandatory minicamp is set to begin. But perhaps he will — he's already attended some of the voluntary activities.
"I mean, it's voluntary," Gase said on April 23, noting that Bell had attended the first week of voluntary workouts and would be able to keep up on the playbook and what the offense was working on via a team-issued iPad.
