Calling the pending indictment of ex-President Trump “an unprecedented abuse of prosecutorial authority,” House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan sent a letter Monday demanding testimony & documents about the probe from New York’s district attorney.

“Bringing charges for falsifying business records is ordinarily a misdemeanor subject to a two-year statute of limitations, which would have expired long ago,” the letter says. “State law, however, allows a district attorney to ‘elevate nominal misdemeanor conduct’ to a felony charge if the ‘intent to defraud includes an intent to commit another crime or to aid or conceal the commission thereof.’”
