One of the more understandable additions, free agent quarterback Jimmy Garappolo, may indeed be a player they pursue.
The Texans coaching staff stayed behind last week during the scouting combine to identify potential free agents to sign when the new league year begins March 15, and offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik said Wednesday that Garoppolo “is obviously part of that process.” Garoppolo, 31, played with Ryans and Slowik while playing with the 49ers for six seasons. The 6-2, 225-pound quarterback’s contract with San Francisco has expired. The Texans have one quarterback under contract, Davis Mills, whose regression in 2022 warranted new additions to the roster.”
“He’s going to be a free agent,” Slowik said of Garoppolo. “We grind through that as a coaching staff. We grind through that in the personnel department. We have conversations. I have conversations with Nick. He has conversations with DeMeco. And then Nick and DeMeco kind of put their heads together and lay out a plan and what we want to do going forward, and we’ll see where that takes us.”
