Previously unseen police intelligence reports have uncovered a disturbing connection between notorious child sex predator Jimmy Savile and Peter Jaconelli, a prominent ice cream magnate accused of abusing young boys.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission is set to release a report on how the force handled information from a 15-year-old girl in 2002 regarding Savile. The report will also examine allegations made by a prison inmate about Jaconelli in December 2008 and January 2009. On the day before his funeral, the church had the words "Peter sex case" daubed on it, indicating the extent of the community's suspicions. Both Jaconelli and Savile had strong ties to Scarborough, where Savile had a home and was eventually buried in the same cemetery as Jaconelli.
