EXCLUSIVE: Campaigners warned the Scottish Government's reputation on human rights 'hangs in the balance'.
John Swinney has been urged by leading charities to honour an SNP manifesto commitment and introduce a new human rights law in Scotland.
The groups include Amnesty International, Scottish Care, Marie Curie, Scottish Women's Aid, Age Scotland, Scottish Drugs Forum and One Parent Families Scotland. Campaigners are dismayed the Bill looks set to be left out of the Programme for Government, which Swinney is due to announce next month. "It is critical that the First Minister provides clarity that the Bill will go ahead as promised. To fail to do so would represent an enormous backwards step for human rights in Scotland. The Human Rights Bill is a promise that we cannot allow to be broken."
