Korpisalo makes 20 saves for his first shutout as a King, and Arthur Kaliyev, Vladislav Gavrikov and Drew Doughty score as they match a franchise record with their 26th home win of the season, 3-0.
LOS ANGELES — Even though the Kings were facing an opponent that did not qualify for the playoffs on Monday night, their clash with the Vancouver Canucks had plenty of postseason intensity as the Kings prevailed, 3-0, at Crypto.com Arena in a home finale with nearly as many fights as it had goals.
Elsewhere, Seattle won its fifth straight game, maintaining a game in hand and remaining two points behind the Kings, who will finish their season on Thursday against the Ducks at Honda Center. A two-three matchup in the Pacific Division bracket would pit the Kings against either Vegas or Edmonton or should Seattle manage to leapfrog them , the silver and black would face the Central Division champion, with Colorado having the inside track after Monday’s games.
Winger Arthur Kaliyev and defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov scored before Drew Doughty tacked on an empty-netter as the Kings tied their franchise record for single-season home wins by matching the 26 they had in 1990-91, 2005-06 and 2015-16. Joonas Korpisalo, who arrived alongside Gavrikov near the trade deadline, earned his first shutout as a King and his first in the past 93 starts by making 20 saves, including a blind one through traffic in the dying embers of the match.
The Kings got perhaps their best defender back in Mikey Anderson, who played 22:15 after missing half a dozen games with an upper-body injury. He also returned in Game 81 of last season from a long-term rib injury. Forwards Kevin Fiala and Gabe Vilardi as well as defenseman Alex Edler remained unavailable and did not practice with the team.
Winger Viktor Arvidsson’s defensive zone takeaway keyed a sequence that saw center Phillip Danault hit winger Trevor Moore with a pass that allowed him to find a trailing Gavrikov, who hit his target confidently 4:03 into the period. Gavrikov has scored as many goals in 19 games as a King as he did in 52 appearances with Columbus before being traded.
