Was Pearl a good hire? Yes, of course he was. No one can argue with that. Pearl’s best qualities as a coach are that he wins basketball games, puts Auburn basketball players in the NBA, packs out Neville Arena and raises absurd amounts of money for Auburn University.Other parallels between the hiring of Pearl and Freeze are easy enough to see. Both Pearl and Freeze were proven winners in the SEC before Auburn.
I do not doubt for a second that Freeze has the ability to do just that. I also do not doubt for a second that Freeze will do anything and everything to make it happen. It’s a pay-to-play world whether anyone wants to call it that or not, and Auburn has fist-fulls of sweaty cash ready for the poker table that is handing over thousands of dollars to teenage boys based on their athletic potential. That’s the game. Doesn’t matter if you like it or not, but Auburn is ready to play.
