District Attorney Chris Connolly argued the preliminary hearing set for June 24 is not necessary and that the case can proceed directly to the grand jury.
In the span of 59 minutes Thursday morning, the district attorney in Lauderdale County filed a motion to drop the escape charge against Casey White with the right to present it to a grand jury, a judge granted the motion and White’s attorneys filed a motion of opposition.
The two, who were not related, were on the run for 11 days before Casey White was captured in Evansville, Indiana. Vicky White took her own life with a gunshot to the head as police closed in. The motion said there is “overwhelming evidence” to support the escape charge, which makes the preliminary hearing unnecessary. The motion said the case will be presented to the grand jury the week of June 27.
