You have about one week left to do it, according to a park ranger.It's one of those ultra-rare California events that if you don't jump on it now, you might miss it for good. Death Valley is now home to an inland lake open to kayaking.Heavy rainfall earlier this February brought 1.5 inches of rain to Death Valley, which is nearly the amount of precipitation it sees in a full year.

For Matuszak, Surf Beach has looked and felt the same ever since a friend took him there more than four decades ago.
