Sir Keir Starmer has expressed confidence in his anti-corruption minister, Tulip Siddiq, despite allegations that she and her family members received bribes of up to £4 billion in connection with a nuclear power plant deal in Bangladesh . The probe, initiated by Bangladesh 's Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), also involves Ms. Siddiq's mother and aunt, Sheikh Rehana Siddiq and Sheikh Hasina Wazed, respectively. The investigation stems from a High Court order based on claims that Ms.
Siddiq, a London-born politician, facilitated the £10 billion deal between Bangladesh and Rosatom, a Russian state-backed company. The deal was signed in 2013 by Ms. Wazed and Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin, with Ms. Siddiq present. While Ms. Siddiq denies any wrongdoing, the Prime Minister's spokesperson acknowledged the situation but declined to comment on potential conflicts of interest prior to her ministerial appointment
