Bend It Like Beckham fans have long believed that best pals Jess and Jules had something more than just friendship going on – and now star Keira Knightley had admitted that their unresolved love story needs to be told.
The film follows Jesminder Bhamra , the 18-year-old daughter of Punjabi Sikhs in London who is infatuated with football but has been forbidden to play by her parents because she is a girl. She secretly joins a local women’s team – where she meets Keira’s Jules – and the team makes its way to the top of the league thanks to the players and coach Joe, played by Jonathan Rhys Meyer.
Despite the film’s love triangle between Jess, Jules and Joe, fans have always seen a hidden romance between Jess and Jules – mainly thanks to the many, many, jokes about the girls’ sexuality because they happen to enjoy football – and now Keira has suggested it may be time for a sequel to get the ending that fans deserve.Although she revealed that she never read a version of the script that had the pair end up together, she told‘I think they should’ve been too. I think that would’ve been great.
