His PopMaster music quiz is loved by an army of fans

Ken Bruce is set to leave BBC Radio 2 with the station’s controversial rebranding seemingly continuing.

The station has seen a number of high-profile departures in recent times. Over the last 12 months, BBC Radio 2 has said goodbye to Steve Wright, 68, being replaced by Scott Mills, 49, after 23 years with the afternoon show. And Paul O'Grady, 67, quit his Sunday evening show after 14 years, after being asked to share the slot with comedian Rob Beckett, 36.

No announcement has been made yet about who will take Ken’s 9.30am to noon weekday slot. The news comes less than a month after the veteran broadcaster said he didn’t see himself retiring any time soon. As reported by the Express, Ken said: The broadcaster said: "I would never retire voluntarily, but you never know, I might be retired.

In a statement, announcing his Radio 2 exit, Ken offered encouragement to fans that they will still be able to hear him on the airwaves. Ken said: “Nothing stays the same forever and I have decided the time is right for me to move on from Radio 2 when I reach the end of my current contract in March. It’s been a tremendously happy time for me: I’ve made many friends and worked with many wonderful colleagues.
