Kenny says it has all kinds of benefits, including a boost in happiness
Former rugby international Kenny Logan has revealed his family's secret to feeling happy, healthy, and alert – a cold shower every day inspired by wife Gabby’s love of open-water swimming.
“I started doing it after seeing how well Gabby got on with her open-water swimming and now I swear by it. I’d done the ice bath thing in my rugby days and it was so effective in recovery. It works wonders for body and mind, and now would only ever have a hot shower if I really need to get clean – and I don’t get too muddy since hanging up the boots!
According to Orthopedic Sports Medicine expert Dr Sharon Hame, of UCLA health, regular cold showers – below 15 degrees Celsius – can have physical and mental benefits including boosting immunity; improving circulation; increasing metabolism; relieving pain; and even combatting depression. Logan added: “I’ve been in the ice bath every day during the challenge, and I swear it’s keeping me going. A few of the other riders and walkers have joined in – but we’re yet to get Ally to take the plunge!”
