Bright claimed Trump tried to skip the vetting process for his preferred drug According to Bright, “there were some attempts to bypass” the standard process to prove hydroxychloroquine was effective and safe for use to treat COVID-19; Trump consistently mentioned the anti-malarial drug in press briefings before studies proved it to be ineffective. Studies have since shown that the drug causes coronavirus patients to experience an increased risk of heart attack.
