For me, the last really good England teams were the 1990 World Cup and 1996 Euros. The team that featured the likes of Terry, Lampard and their ilk – vastly overrated. Whilst as for the England team under Gareth Southgate, they have done decent but are a just an above average team that had very lucky draws when reaching the World Cup semi and Euros final, in a modern day world where levels in international football are far lower.
Also, Kieran Trippier was only nine when Alan Shearer played his last ever England match in 2000, so I wouldn’t be too harsh on Kieran Trippier when not selecting him.
