Rangers shortstop Corey Seager named MLB All-Star as injury replacement
With his former team, the Dodgers, playing host, Seager will partake in his third ASG and his second Derby.
Seager replaces Toronto outfielder George Springer, who decided not to attend. It will be Seager’s first return to Dodger Stadium since signing a 10-year, $325 million deal with the Rangers last December. Hollywood loves a good story angle and so does MLB. When Springer backed out, the league already had met all its position player needs for fan and player voting, as required by the CBA. It gave the league the latitude to choose anyone it wanted.
But Seager only ranked 25th in the AL in OPS entering Thursday. There were eight players ahead of him that are not on the AL roster. The White Sox José Abreu, at .845, had the highest OPS of players left off the team.
