King Charles has become Colonel-in-Chief of the Corps of Royal Engineers – a role Queen Elizabeth II held for 70 years from 1952 until her death in September last year
King Charles has taken on a new ceremonial role with the British Army’s military engineers – following in the footsteps of his mother, the late Queen.
The King held an audience with Chief Royal Engineer Lieutenant General Sir Tyrone Urch at the Palace on 14 March. As sovereign, the King is head of the armed forces. The Corps was founded in 1716 and gained the prefix Royal in 1787. King Charles will also address the Bundestag, the German Federal Parliament, becoming the first British monarch to carry this out.
