Her latest, though, is her most absurd and fully committed dream sequence yet: for the “
” video, King Princess sits atop a gigantic couch and transforms into various TV character types that you will probably remember from your youth. The concept was born out of an art installation created by Straus’s creative director, Clare Gillen, in which the subject is watching herself on TV. “We were mesmerized by the idea of creating our own icon out of her, like Angeline or Hedwig,” Gillen says.
There’s a Kidz Bop-esque commercial, wherein Straus shills kid-friendly versions of pop songs in a metallicdress; a dramatic soap opera scene that finds Straus getting into a fight in a feathered blonde wig and a leopard print blouse; and lastly, there’s a full-out pageant queen breakdown.
