TheKingsMan star Harris Dickinson reveals director Matthew Vaughn's simple nonchalant response to minor on-set injuries: 'Well, you know, welcome to The Kingsman.'
Harris Dickinson shares King's Man director Matthew Vaughn's response to on-set injuries. Dickinson plays Conrad Oxford in the latest installment of the Kingsman franchise. He is joined by co-stars Ralph Fiennes, Gemma Arterton, Charles Dance, Rhys Ifans, Djimon Hounsou, Tom Hollander, and Matthew Goode. The third film, which serves as a prequel to its predecessors, explores the founding of the titular secret service.
Set in World War I, The King's Man follows the founding members of the organization which would later be known as the Kingsmen. The highly skilled ensemble must work together to disrupt a plot to kill millions of people. Production on the new picture began back in 2018, with plans for release in November of 2019. After numerous delays caused by COVID-19, the film finally debuted on December 22.
“The fight I had to in No Man’s Land was in the dark and everyone had to stay quiet, it was this standoff between the Germans and the British troops… Matthew made a decision to put us all in kilts, as certain regiments actually did… I later learned they actually fought in kilts and leg warmers… Doing a fight scene in that, you kind of can’t take yourself too seriously because of what you’re wearing. It’s impossible to sort of walk around with a stiff upper lip in that sense.
Kingsman has quickly established itself as one of the most popular new franchises in recent years. While the prequel has so far received a slightly more underwhelming critical response, development on two new projects is reportedly going ahead unhindered. A sequel supposedly entitled Kingsman: The Blue Blood plans to begin production in September of 2022, while Vaughn also works on a spinoff focusing on the Statesman.
Though The King's Man may have failed to make a huge impression on critics, it seems to have delivered on the fan expectation for fun and action. With combat scenes that were apparently as entertaining to film as they are to watch, it seems likely that viewers will still have a good time in theatres. Indeed, with pandemic woes still abundant, films like The Kings Man could deliver a much-needed sense of fun to people's lives.
