'They’re going to be on a mission,' Kirk Herbstreit said of Alabama, which fell to Georgia in the CFP championship last year. 'They’re probably going to have to get through Georgia, but I think they will. I think Bama is the team to beat in the SEC.”

Kirk Herbstreit released his annual “Herbie Awards” as we get geared up for the college football season, adding the Alabama Crimson Tide is “going to be possessed.”

The ESPN “College GameDay” analyst explained just how motivated Nick Saban’s team this year will be, while also awarding Alabama linebacker Will Anderson Jr. with the “Ultimate Herbie,” which goes to Herbstreit’s best college football player - on and off the field - for the upcoming year.“Yeah. I mean, all you have to do is look at history,” Herbstreit told Chris Fowler.

“So, they’re going to be possessed. They’re going to be on a mission. They’re probably going to have to get through Georgia, but I think they will. I think Bama is the team to beat in the SEC.”Herbstreit, meanwhile, pointed out where college football misses on Anderson, who finished fifth in the Heisman Trophy a year ago.

“I think that one thing we’re underestimating is his overall understanding of this defense,” Herbstreit said. “You know, it’s just another year for his foundation of what he understands and how Pete Golding and Nick Saban will try to utilize him. Using his hands, not just being a great athlete. He also defends the run. So that’s a part of his game that people don’t talk about. ... The Ultimate Herbie, Will Anderson, that’s a very, very deserving player this year.
