In Kirkcaldy , for a while, there’s fog lying so thick you can’t see ten metres in front of you. In North Queensferry, we get sunshine, blustery wind and lashing rain, all in the space of about an hour.

The SNP’s Backhouse is adamant both that the local Labour campaign - and Keir Starmer’s message - is not going down as well here as pollsters suggest.
Backhouse - who, distinctively, always wears a hat - added: “What you’re seeing from Labour is a paucity of ideas. They’re not changing anything. Keir Starmer has flip-flopped on a number of issues.” Standing again this year, Hanvey is in bullish mood when we meet him in Kirkcaldy eatery Jock’s Grill - and hopes he can be the surprise package on polling day.
