EXCLUSIVE: The Record understands a Labour councillor tried to table an anti-cuts motion at a party group meeting, but she was rebuffed.
Labour bosses blocked a bid to shelve plans for the closure of dozens of sports and leisure facilities in North Lanarkshire.
Included are sites named after legendary Labour figures like the John Smith Pool in Airdrie and the Keir Hardie Sports Centre in Holytown. The council, whose leader is Labour’s Jim Logue, says it needs to find £64m of savings over three years. Labour councillor Heather Brannan-McVey, who challenged Logue for the leadership this year, tabled a motion for her party’s group meeting last week.
