Record View says the two-child benefit cap is a cruel policy.
Angela Rayner came to Glasgow yesterday where she claimed Labour’s Rutherglen and Hamilton West by-election candidate Michael Shanks would not be disciplined if he defied his UK party boss, Keir Starmer, on the issue at Westminster. Yet the party still tries to appeal to Tory voters in the south by backing the policy.
But Starmer needs to present a real vision of how he is going to make our lives better. Driving children into poverty because they happen to be in a three-child family is surely not part of that plan. No Tory attacks on the most vulnerable people in our society should be tolerated under a Labour government. If Labour wants to win back Downing Street then they’ll have to present a vision of a better future and be a party people can trust to do the right thing. Starting with the two-child benefit cap.
