Britons living in major European cities were on Friday celebrating Sir Keir Starmer's election victory and calling for Brexit to be reversed

Richard Corbett, a former MEP and Labour Party leader in the European Parliament, was in a joyous mood. “I’m just relieved that we finally got rid of one the most incompetent and corrupt governments in recent British history,” he said. Jonny Whitlam, 35, a tour guide from Nottingham who moved to Germany in 2010, said he was optimistic the two countries could be close allies. “At least they’re not the party that has caused all of the damage, I mean that’s a very good starting point,” he said.“You couldn’t hope for someone with a better CV,” he said. “For me, it’s someone you can trust to do the right thing and I hope that I’m proven right in this.

“I’d like to see more openness from the UK,” said Andrea Costanzi, 59, who was out running near the Duomo. “I recently went to London and it is becoming too isolated. When you go there as a foreigner you feel a ‘we are English and you are not’ mentality, and it’s a shame because England is a great country.” He added: “I’d like to see the UK return to the EU. I’d like that a lot.”The 46-year-old said the UK had remained an “immobile democracy” since Brexit.
