Labour will prioritise the asylum claims of those from 'safe' countries in efforts to deal with a huge number of cases after axing the Rwanda plan, it has emerged.

Only 3 per cent of asylum seekers from India have their applications accepted, along with 7 per cent of Albanians and 46 per cent of Vietnamese. This forms part of Sir Keir Starmer's promise to 'smash the gangs' who help people travel across the Channel in small boats. Some 1,499 migrants arrived in the UK in 27 boats from July 15 to 21, according to Home Office figures.
