About 2 to 4 inches of rain are expected through Tuesday night in some areas of Cuyahoga and Geauga counties.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — A steady amount of showers and thunderstorms is expected over the next few days in Northeast Ohio, and “lake-effect” rains could lead to flooding problems in some areas.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service say periods of heavy lake-effect rain will occur overnight Sunday through Tuesday night, with 2 to 4 inches of rain possible. Even more rain could fall in some areas of Northeast Ohio, forecasters say. Concerns about flooding have led to the Weather Service to issue a flood watch for Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga and Ashtabula counties, effective until Tuesday night. The heaviest rain is expected to fall in the northern parts of Cuyahoga and Geauga counties, while heavier rain will occur near the lakeshore in Lake and Ashtabula counties.

The excessive runoff could cause flooding along rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations, forecasters say. Note to readers: if you purchase something through one of our affiliate links we may earn a commission.
