Of all the Lakers still remaining on the roster from the offseason, Walker might be in the most difficult position. He was signed with the team’s mid-level salary slot, one of the biggest offseason options they had to acquire talent. At first, that looked like a solid investment: Walker was the team’s third-leading scorer behind LeBron James and Anthony Davis in his first 32 games, shooting over 38% from 3-point range.
“Every day I’ve been in the gym, just being positive, understanding what we’re doing, what we’re trying to accomplish, and staying ready,” he said. “I have great people like Chris Jent to talk to almost every other day, even when I have my ups and downs. And my teammates have made me not being able to play much easier. I love these guys, and I’m happy to be playing with them.”
The Lakers traded Beverley at the deadline to the Orlando Magic for Mo Bamba, who has largely been injured. But they’re also probably not about to regret a series of deals that has helped them go 12-6 and finally enter the playoff picture, even with James limited by injuries.
