Lancashire butchers spills secret on 100 years in businesses - with a 'personal touch' essential to everything
When an independent butchers survives a world war, the arrival of supermarket meat counters, a global pandemic, recessions, animal disease outbreaks and now a cost of living crisis, it takes more than just good fortune to stay open for an entire century. And despite such challenges, DC Scott & Sons butchers are celebrating their 100 years in business this week.
Eventually, the butchers acquired the adjacent grocery store and expanded, gradually introducing a deli counter and wider variety of produce. The onsite slaughterhouse was closed in the 1960s. Besides cuts of meats, sausages, pies and pastries, customers can also take home ready meals, pre-seasoned meats ideal for a BBQ, food marinaded in sauces and kebabs. Steak and ready meals are by far the best-sellers at the Church Street butchers.
