Larry Lloyd’s Nottingham Forest story was of white goods and Reds gods, of Brian Clough giving him a washing machine he’d nicked from the City Ground laundry room as a signing on fee to lifting the European Cup for the second time at Real Madrid’s Bernabeu Stadium.
Lloyd, who Forest confirmed on Thursday has sadly passed away, remembered it all with frightening clarity, from the day he sat down with Clough to negotiate his move to the City Ground from Coventry City. “I pointed them to the kitchen so they could plumb it in and as they carried it through to the kitchen there was water dripping out of a pipe at the back. I just thought they must have tested it in the shop.“‘Are you Larry Lloyd?’ one of them asked, so I said ‘yes’. And then they said ‘thank you very much!’.
