A last-minute equaliser denied Jordan Parkes the perfect start to his Kings Langley managerial career as they were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw at home to Cirencester Town on the opening day of the Southern League Division One Central season.
It has been a summer of change at the Orbital Fasteners Stadium following last season’s relegation with former player Parkes returning following the departure of Chris Winton, and the new manager’s first league selection of the season contained nine debutants. The home side looked comfortable after Howe had given them the lead from the spot, but the visitors dug in to prevent that buffer being extended, keeper Stuart Nelson saving well from a snapshot on the turn by Cheyce Grant.
The keeper tipped an Aiden Bennett piledriver round the post in the last minute of the half, but it was Kings who entered the break the happiest.Luca Robinson set up a great chance for the visitors on the restart, a low cross eluding everyone, but Kings turned up the heat and substitute Michael Gabblah’s point-blank header was superbly saved by Nelson.
