Anfield played host to a record league crowd on Saturday but it was Nottingham Forest fans who were left cheering
Liverpool played host to another record league crowd at Anfield against Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon. Come full-time, though, it certainly didn't feel like it. With thousands of home supporters having already given up on the prospect of a late comeback from the Reds, the only real noise during the closing moments was from the away end packed with Forest fans watching their team win at the stadium for the first time in more than 55 years.
They would very much prefer the new head coach to steadfastly remain his own man. Despite the encouraging opening weeks - and a 3-0 win at Manchester United always goes some way to winning over supporters - fans are still adjusting to the new manager and vice-versa. That is natural and inevitable, and will take some time. Surprise defeats as on Saturday are a learning curve for both.
