Incumbents Campbell, Moreno, Montgomery Steppe with big leads in re-election bids
Kent Lee had a solid lead over fellow Democrat Tommy Hough in early returns in San Diego’s hottest City Council runoff, a campaign focused on the city’s housing crisis and whether District 6 should be represented by someone of Asian descent.
Elsewhere in the city, two Republicans made council runoffs, but both were trailing incumbent Democrats by wide margins in early returns. The most competitive of the council runoffs has been the battle between Lee, a nonprofit arts executive, and Hough, a county planning commissioner. The candidates, who both live in Mira Mesa, also disagree on leadership styles. Hough describes himself as a maverick who would inject outside-the-box ideas into council debates, while Lee says he would keep bringing people together by building coalitions and earning trust.
