The council is set to override the objections and push forward with the plans
Leeds City Council has received 671 formal objections to the new fees at Golden Acre, Middleton and Roundhay parks, as well as Temple Newsam and Otley Chevin.
Residents were given the opportunity to voice their concerns when the council published an Off-Street Parking Order, which authorises the new charges. Some critics argued that a cashless payment system at the parks would unfairly disadvantage people without mobile phones. There were also worries about the potential impact on public health if people were deterred from visiting the parks due to the cost. However, the report countered that the charges could promote healthier modes of transport.
The new charges are set at £1 for up to two hours, £2.50 for half a day, and £4 for a full day. Blue badge holders will be exempt from the charges.
