Francis Street residents have said the area is 'deeply troubled with crime' as a murder investigation has been launched
Leeds residents have spoken of their fears after a 19-year-old man was beaten to death by a gang in balaclavas on their street.
West Yorkshire Police said it understands from initial reports three to four balaclava clad people carried out the attack. Francis Street and the surrounding area has been cordoned off while investigations continue. Marta said: “I was surprised when I woke up in the morning and something like this was going on. I don‘t know why people do things like this. I’m very sad, he’s young. I have three children. I’m scared for them. My son works for a restaurant, so he finishes late at night and comes back. I’m scared at that, for what could happen.”
Sheila said: “I’m not really surprised because usually this time of year there is usually some violent action happening. I have my own security and I don’t go out at night, the area isn’t exactly safe. It is not something unaware of, it has happened in the past. It’s not something new.”
