The Rhinos are set to reveal the identity of their new Sporting Director.
Leeds Rhinos will announce their new Sporting Director today. The Headingley club has called a press conference for Monday morning , in which they will confirm the identity of the new appointment.
That is believed to be Ian Blease, Salford Red Devils' Head of Rugby & Operations, who Rugby League Live revealed on Sunday was on the bring of completing a move to the club. Blease has been at Salford for over six years and been credited as a key component of recruitment, which has seen them make two major finals despite being among Super League's lowest spenders.
According to the Rhinos, the new Sporting Director "will provide strategic direction, leadership and oversight of the rugby department at Leeds Rhinos as a member of the club’s Board of Directors. The new wide-ranging role will oversee all age grades at the club along with support for the Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s RL Development Plan."Blease has a long association with Salford, having played for the club almost 250 times during the 80s and 90s.
His immediate objective will be to oversee an improvement at first-team level, with the Rhinos currently outside of the play-offs despite a heavy recruitment drive in the off-season, which ironically included the purchases of Croft and Ackers from Salford.
