We clearly have the money to do this: we are sitting on a state budget surplus of over a billion dollars that is projected to rise to $3 billion in coming years. The real question is whether legislators and the governor have the will.
It’s clear that our legislators have their own ideas about what to do with our surplus, so I would like to make a suggestion that will not increase the forecast spending, and will have the benefit of sparing Little Cottonwood Canyon from the gondola. Take that $500 million gondola budget and use it to buy up water rights instead.
