A Naperville letter to the editor: As a Naperville resident with prior service as a captain in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam era,

As a Naperville resident with prior service as a captain in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam era, I was pleased to see a candidate with a history of military service running for mayor. Benny White has a long history of service to the community as a city councilman, member of the Police and Fire Commission and an elected school board member.

He is the only candidate with significant prior elected experience. He can speak for all Naperville community members from the recently arrived new families to families like that of my wife who have lived in the community for 40 or more years. As a West Point graduate with years of military service, he knows the meaning of duty, honor and country. He knows the destructive power of weapons of war and techniques of negotiation to avoid unnecessary conflict.

He is not running to promote any political ideology, but instead is interested in finding consensus in Naperville's best interest. A family man in a 35-year marriage with two children graduating from Naperville schools, he knows the value of commitment. He has an MBA, earned a PhD from Benedictine University and knows the importance of education.

He has assisted in his last two terms on the council in making Naperville the safest and best place to raise a family in Illinois. If elected mayor, he has pledged to continue to collaborate in the development of Naperville with responsible budgetary oversight.

Letter: Utah’s legislative session has surpassed all others in its hideousnessLetter: Utah’s legislative session has surpassed all others in its hideousnessI read in this morning’s Tribune that our illustrious state Legislature has again taken Utah taxpayer funds and made a $500,000 donation to the anti-wolf lobbyist organization Hunter Nation, to educate midwestern hunters on the evils of protecting the gray wolf under the Endangered Species List. This is in addition to the $2 million awarded a few years back, and totals more than $5 million of Utah taxpayer funds to these organizations over a decade. $5 million of Utah taxpayer money used to lobby Congress that we need to delist the gray wolf, because it’s apparently decimating too much cattle and sheep in Utah? Or is it really about keeping a robust hunting season for the shrinking population of Utahns who still participate?

Letter: Nothing in article about Delta embracing “sustainable aviation fuel” reflected a major changeLetter: Nothing in article about Delta embracing “sustainable aviation fuel” reflected a major changeThe first thing I do when I see a headline that reads like a press release crafted by a corporation is to search for a quote or analysis by an independent expert. I must therefore sadly report that the Tribune article, “Delta embraces “sustainable aviation fuel” in its net-zero pursuit,” contained no disinterested opinion or analysis.
