Her letter, “Back to where?” was classic.
DeSantis seems to be obsessed with the term “woke,” saying that “Florida is the place where woke goes to die.” I honestly had never heard that word used in that manner until of late. Doyle, a self-described WASP, says that unlike her “slave owning” ancestors, she considers herself “enlightened” and now views the word “woke” as a compliment.
She also mocks Trump for fomenting the MAGA crowd “to take our country back.” From whom? She wonders. Just like I value the wisdom of historians like Jon Meacham and Michael Beschloss, I love reading Doyle’s letters. Speaking truth to power is a beautiful thing. Our nation, now more than ever, turns its lonely eyes to Americans like them.
