Baptist Health SystemsFifty years ago, the city used eminent domain to force my 80-year-old great-grandmother out of her 2-acre property tract on North Leona Street. She made her living renting furnished apartments that surrounded the main home where she resided.
Moving forward to the present, I side with Vince Cantu, owner of Moses Rose’s Hideout. Why should the city cash in at the cost of another person’s loss? Both parties should come to the table and reach a better deal than the $3.5 million offered. The city will recoup the loss in the “cash cow” they are building.
The Kelo v. New London case questioned the limits a government has in taking one’s property. I-10 was taken over by street punks doing donuts, firing weapons, dangerously blocking traffic and damaging the highway.
