We need to stir ourselves out of our lethal oil and gas slumber now, before it puts an end to all of us in the next 49 years. Otherwise, whether we are rich or poor, even beautiful Cancun will not be able to offer one a safe harbor anymore.I am a freshman in college and would love to address the political issue that I think should be at the forefront of our conversations — global warming.
This editorial brought up some interesting points and facts. The free market exists within a market design and a legal framework, and it is not a perfect tool. The existence of pollution that polluters do not pay for, and other externalities, are examples. Incentivizing reliable plants as the editorial suggests is a great idea.
The construction zone on I-35E around Waxahachie, however, has suffered none of this, because virtually every driver exceeds the speed limit by 10-15 mph, some by much more. Narrow lanes, S-curves, poor roadway drainage in the rain — nothing has slowed them down. This has gone on for years.
