Let me see if I’ve got this straight: The U.S. was energy independent, even exporting oil and gas to the European Union to give it an alternative to Russian oil and gas, and U.S. gasoline prices were low. President Joe Biden took office in January 2021 and began restricting the U.S. petroleum industry, raising U.S. gasoline prices and restricting oil and gas supplies to the EU, making it more dependent on Russia.

The EU reacts placing meaningful sanctions on Russia’s petroleum industry. The U.S. dithers around placing light sanctions on Russia because Biden wants “to limit the pain the American people are feeling at the gas pump” and the money keeps flowing to Russia. Biden wants to wait and see what happens in 30 days; in the meantime the Ukrainian people are dying.After the 9/11 attacks would have been the perfect time for President George W. Bush to tell the American people that the U.S.

Dependence on oil and other fossil fuels from unstable and hostile parts of the world is a grave national security issue. It is time to end our dependence on oil so we can sanction Russian oil.Trans people embody the inherent worth and dignity that is a pillar of our Unitarian Universalist faith. At the Texas Unitarian Universalist Justice Ministry, our hearts are with trans kids, their families and caregivers, and all trans and nonbinary people.

Trans Texans, your clergy are not required to report gender-affirming care, nor would we.
