I lived there over 50 years ago with neighbors such as Bob Lilly of Dallas Cowboys fame and the founder of Steak and Ale. It was called the “Buttonwood Tree” after the tree at Wall Street in Manhattan where the Stock Exchange started. There were two- and three-level apartments and we all had covered parking for our Cadillacs and the rent was twice the going rate.
This lake is essential for a division of wildlife in this region, including the river otters that are continually losing their habitats to development and bald eagles that roost in this park during the winter. This lake is also known for some of the best fishing in East Texas. Undoubtedly, San Antonio’s homelessness services provider, Haven for Hope, is important to San Antonio’s efforts to end homelessness. However, there is no data to support reported state legislative efforts to require large Texas cities to adopt this model.
