At 76 and now on the other side of his spate of near-death experiences, Wenner looked better than I thought he would, at least through the screen of my laptop. “I feel grateful to have been able to be a part of it,” he said, finally cracking open the can of ginger ale he’d been calling out for someone to bring him throughout the course of our interview. “I feel grateful to have been alive in an era of rock and roll—the talent, and the poets, and the literature, and all the passion of it. It gave me a life of fun, and of purpose, and of consequence. I believe in the foundational values of this country: life, liberty, and a pursuit of happiness.
