LGBT England fans urge Three Lions to follow German lead over 'OneLove' armband protest 🔴 All eyes will be on England and Wales when they take the field on Friday against the USA and Iran respectively, to see how they respond

Germany, one of seven European teams which had planned to wear the armband ahead of Fifa’s decision,Now all eyes will be on England and Wales when they take the field on Friday against the USA and Iran respectively, to see how they respond.Lisa Robinson, 43, from Aston Villa fans group Villa and Proud, told“[Wearing the OneLove armband] wasn’t a big gesture. But for them to then decide that they weren’t doing it anyway was even more of a kick in the teeth.

Carl Fearn, the co-chair of Gay Gooners, an Arsenal fans’ group, raised fears that LGBT fans could be blamed if the England team are sanctioned as result of any protest, after “vile comments” were directed at LGBT supporters on social media following a protest at the Qatari embassy in London last week.: “I certainly don’t want to be seen as a protagonist to get the captain of England to wear the armband and stick two fingers up to FIFA and then we get the backlash.

Fifa’s timing, falling on the morning of England’s World Cup opener against Iran, had left players with “little time to react”, he added. Meanwhile, Nuffield Health, an official sponsor of the English FA, voiced its “disappointment” at Fifa’s stance. A spokesperson told: “We’re disappointed with their [Fifa’s] decision to prevent the England team captain from wearing the ONE LOVE armband as an anti-discrimination statement.

Carl Fearn, 55, from Arsenal fans’ group Gay Gooners, said he would like to see some gesture of support from England when they play the USA, but is not hopeful , who are not one of the seven teams who had vowed to wear the armband during the tournament, said he would like to see his country’s players follow the German example.
