There were plans for a new Lidl supermarket and 62 homes on the former Chronos Richardson plastics factory off Belconnen Road, but now the store part of the scheme has now been withdrawn
Lidl has scrapped its plans to build a new store on the former site of a Nottingham factory. There were plans for a new Lidl supermarket and 62 homes on the former Chronos Richardson plastics factory off Belconnen Road, Bestwood, but now the store part of the scheme has now been withdrawn.
While both the housing and the supermarket were separate, the applicant Ms Julie White had submitted them as a comprehensive package on behalf of Lidl and housing developer MyPad. This was so it met the council’s local plan, a document setting out how the development of housing, businesses and roads infrastructure can best benefit the area - which had earmarked the land for new homes.
Nottingham City Council’s planning committee approved the plans during a meeting on December 21 last year, but since then negotiations over part of the project's Section 106 contribution had become a stumbling block. A report shared at Nottingham City Council's planning committee on July 19 claimed MyPad had advised the local authority it was unlikely to be able to conclude the s106 agreement and deliver the proposed residential development "due to commercial reasons".
Lidl confirmed it doesn't own the site and the company had a conditional offer in place with the current landlord that was subject to planning permission being granted. But Lidl confirmed that, due to delays relating to the planning process, it has had to withdraw its plans. The company confirmed its teams were continuing their search for suitable sites in the area.
Lidl previously said the new store would generate up to 40 full-time jobs and contribute around £2 million to the local economy.
